Gerina played golf for the first time at age 15. Gerina was a student at Goddard High School. When she was a student in high school she won the New Mexico Golf State Tournament. She was a volleyball player and participated in state championships. She attended in the University of Texas in 2003. During the senior period of her career she was the winner of every event in which she competed. In her undergraduate years she was awarded the title that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Years.
